One of the most important activities of AMS is the encouragement and promotion of education within the community. In fact, the first verses revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in the Holy Quran were:
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. He Who created man from a clot. Read and your Lord is Most Honorable. He Who taught (to write) with the pen. And taught man what he knew not. Chapter 96 verses 1-5
God also Says:
Say, “do those who have knowledge compare to those without knowledge”. Chapter 39 Verse 9
For this reason, the pursuit of education takes on a spiritual significance. One of the vehicles used by AMS to fulfill this divine injunction was the establishment of the Al-Furqan School at AMS in 1982. The school currently serves about 700 students and operates on the weekend during the school year and five days a week during the summer break. Students are taught the Arabic language and Islamic studies. But, even more important than that, the students are taught to adhere to the Islamic values of honesty, hard work, community service and respect for elders.
